The journey from Skardu to the Pakistan–India Line of Control (L.O.C) near Turtuk is one of the most unique and sensitive travel experiences in northern Pakistan. This route takes you through the breathtaking Shyok Valley, where towering mountains, winding rivers, and remote villages create a dramatic landscape.

As you move closer to the L.O.C, the atmosphere changes—this is not just a scenic trip but also a region of strategic importance. The last Pakistani villages like Turtuk and Thang offer a glimpse into Balti culture, simple lifestyles, and historic significance. These areas were once part of a different administrative region before the Indo-Pak War of 1971, after which boundaries changed.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Skardu

Arrive in Skardu and transfer to your hotel. After some rest, explore Shangrila Resort and Upper Kachura Lake. Enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by mountains.

Day 2: Skardu Local Exploration

Visit Satpara Lake, Buddha Rock, and the Cold Desert. Prepare for the long journey ahead by resting early and confirming travel permissions if required.

Day 3: Travel Towards Turtuk (via Shyok Valley)

Depart early from Skardu and travel along the Shyok River. The journey is long and adventurous (6–8 hours depending on conditions). Enjoy stunning views of cliffs, rivers, and isolated settlements.

Reach Turtuk or nearby village, check into a guesthouse, and relax after the journey.

Day 4: Visit L.O.C Point & Explore Last Villages

After breakfast, visit nearby villages like Thang, known as the last village of Pakistan near the L.O.C. If permitted, you can visit designated viewpoints close to the border.

Explore local culture, interact with residents, and learn about the history of the region. Photography may be restricted in sensitive areas, so always follow guidelines.

Day 5: Return to Skardu

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Skardu. Enjoy the scenic drive one last time. Upon arrival, transfer to the airport or continue your travel plans.
